What's Your Major?

So many are struggling in this economy, the foreclosures, people struggling to find work, times are hard! If you had to pick a major, right now, what would it be? How could you really impact your world?

Christ has some input on this matter in Matthew; He tells us what's important, what to major in, in this life!

In Matthew 22:37-39 Jesus gives us two things, He, actually, puts them in order of importance!

"'To love the Lord, your God with all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the prophets hang on these commandments."

Jesus defines for us what's really important: God first and second, others, as we love ourself! Wow! I don't hear any mention of career, houses or lands! Nothing about cars, cell phones, or minutes, but relationships! God and man! These things are eternal!

In many ways, these hard times are a great blessing to us all! They are refining us as silver, they are purifying us as gold! The purifying process hurts, it's no picnic, but we will be blessed by it in the end, because our eyes are being opened to what's really matters!

I am filled with great rejoicing, three people in my family, in the past six months, have come to the saving knowledge of Christ! These three are on fire, they are turning and loving and telling others! I am elated! Yesterday, I talked to a cousin again and her eyes are being opened! I hear the excitement in her voice and yet, her struggles are very great! In the midst of such grief, she is being saved! Yes, I see the problems, I am experiencing them too; it's grueling, but I am counting the blessings! These trials are temporal, but lives are eternal and these three are rejoicing in their Savior! My cousin is at the door! I love it! This makes all I'm going through worth it all! I am filled with laughter, God is so good!

These are urgent times, we, as believers need to seize the moment, to be ready to meet these hurts and trials with Christ, before the door shuts and it's too late! It's people that matter! They are hurting, seeking, asking! Let's take our focus off the temporal and put it on the eternal! Let's be ready to give an answer for the hope we have in us! What's Christ's advice on our major? God first and others, as ourselves!

Matthew 6:19 says,
"Do not store up fore yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and thieves break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

What's your major?
